لِيَجْزِيَ اللَّهُ الصَّادِقِينَ بِصِدْقِهِمْ وَيُعَذِّبَ الْمُنَافِقِينَ إِنْ شَاءَ أَوْ يَتُوبَ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ غَفُورًا رَحِيمًا
damit Allah den Wahrhaftigen ihre Wahrhaftigkeit vergelte und die Heuchler strafe, wenn Er will, oder sich ihnen Reue-Annehmend zuwende. Gewiß, Allah ist Allvergebend und Barmherzig.
Auf daß Gott die Wahrhaftigen für ihre Wahrhaftigkeit entlohne und die Heuchler peinige, wenn Er will, oder sich ihnen (gnädig) zuwende. Gott ist voller Vergebung und barmherzig.
That God may recompense the truthful for their truthfulness, and punish the hypocrites or relent towards them, as He will. God is surely forgiving and kind.
In consequence God will reward the truthful ones for having been true to their covenant, and punish the hypocrites if He wills or turn to them in lenience and accept their repentance (if they repent). Surely God is All-Forgiving, All-Compassionate.
(The Muslims were granted victory in this battle) so that Allâh may reward the truthful for their having been true (to their covenant) and that He may punish the hypocrites or turn to them in mercy whichever pleases Him. Allâh is Great Protector (against faults), Ever Merciful.
[Such trials are imposed upon man] so that God may reward the truthful for having been true to their word, and cause the hypocrites to suffer - if that be His will-or [if they repent,] accept their repen-tance: 27 for, verily, God is indeed much-forgiving, a dispenser of grace!

All this happens so that Allah may reward the truthful for their truth and punish the hypocrites or accept their repentance if He wills: for Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

That Allah may reward the men of Truth for their Truth, and punish the Hypocrites if that be His Will, or turn to them in Mercy: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
