Original Book

Bubenheim - Elyas

Ahmed Ali

What they spend in the life of this world is like a frosty wind which smites and destroys the crops of a people who had wronged themselves. God did not wrong them, they wronged themselves.

Ali Ünal

Their spending (to attain their goals in humanitarian or religious guises) in this life of the world is like a biting wind accompanied with frost that smites the harvest of a people who wronged themselves (by their wrong belief and their wrong actions), and devastates it. God has never wronged them but they do wrong themselves.

Amatul Rahman Omar

That which they spend for the present life bears likeness with the wind wherein is freezing cold which smites the tilth of the people who have done injustice to themselves, so it destroys it. Allâh does no injustice to them but they wrong themselves.

Asad

The parable of what they spend on the life of this world is that of an icy wind which smites the filth of people who have sinned against themselves, and destroys it: for, it is not God who does them wrong, but it is they who are wronging themselves. 86

Daryabadi

The likeness of that which they expend in this life of the world is as the likeness of a wind wherein is intense cold, it befalleth the tilth of a people who have wronged themselves, and destroyeth it. Allah wronged them not, but themselves they wrong.

Faridul Haque

The example of what they spend in this worldly life is similar to the freezing cold wind which struck the fields of a nation who wronged themselves, and destroyed it completely; and Allah did not oppress them, but it is they who wronged themselves.

Hamid S. Aziz

O you who believe! Take not for intimates others than your own folk, who would not fail to ruin you; they love to obstruct you. Hatred is shown by their mouths; but what their breasts conceal is greater still. We have made manifest to you Our revelations, did you but understand.

Literal

(An) example of what they spend in this the life the present/worldly life (is) as (the) example (of) a wind, in it (is) severe cold/frost, it struck a nation`s cultivation/plantation, they caused injustice (to) themselves, so it destroyed/wasted it , and God did not cause injustice to them, and but (it is) themselves they cause injustice to.

Malik

What they spend in this life (hypocritical charity) may be compared to a freezing wind which strikes and destroys the tillage of people who have wronged themselves (it is the lack of faith which makes their reward null and void); Allah is not unjust to them; it is they who have done injustice to their own souls.

Maulana Mohammad Ali

Those who disbelieve, neither their wealth nor their children will avail them aught against Allah. And these are the companions of the Fire; therein they abide.

Muhammad Sarwar

What they spend in this life is like the freezing wind that may strike and destroy the farms of the people who have wronged themselves. God has not done injustice to them, but they have wronged themselves.

Pickthall

The likeness of that which they spend in this life of the world is as the likeness of a biting, icy wind which smiteth the harvest of a people who have wronged themselves, and devastateth it. Allah wronged them not, but they do wrong themselves.

Shakir

The likeness of what they spend in the life of this world is as the likeness of wind in which is intense cold (that) smites the seed produce of a people who haw done injustice to their souls and destroys it; and Allah is not unjust to them, but they are unjust to themselves.

The Noble Koran

The likeness of what they spend in this world is the likeness of a wind which is extremely cold; it struck the harvest of a people who did wrong aginst themselves and destroyed it, (i.e. the good deed of a person is only accepted if he is a monotheist and believes in all the Prophets of Allah, including Christ and Muhammad). Allah wronged them not, but they wronged themselves.

Yusuf Ali

What they spend in the life of this (material) world May be likened to a wind which brings a nipping frost: It strikes and destroys the harvest of men who have wronged their own souls: it is not Allah that hath wronged them, but they wrong themselves.
